What Is OMST?

OMST helps the brain learn or relearn multi-sensory filtering (processing). It involves simultaneous application of prescribed frequencies of colored light, vestibular (motion) stimulation, auditory training, somatosensory input, and optometric vision therapy. It is NOT a stand-alone intervention, but rather a powerful adjunct to the overall optometric care of concussed patients and children suffering delays in sensory processing disorders often associated with ADHD, anxiety, or autistic based.

OMST differentiates itself from all other interventions because it is:

  • Input vs Output
  • Passive vs Active
  • Subconscious vs Conscious
  • Subcortical vs Cortical
  • Bottom-up vs Top-down

How is this done?

Under controlled and safe clinical conditions, this intense application of foundational therapy guides the re-establishment of sensory regulation with the end result being enhanced filtering, fine-tuning, and prioritizing of sensory information coming into the brain from the environment. A concussed brain can lose efficiency of this process causing the patient to be overwhelmed by “normal” surroundings. OMST is designed to help the concussed patient accelerate their optometric and overall rehabilitation.

The OMST process involves 12 days in the clinic (within a 14 day or less period), followed by 18 days of home based therapy, and if needed, in-office booster sessions determined individually for each participant.
